Just 29 Kms from Seville, above the Alcores dominated by the numerous meadows of cordobes is the town of Carmona. The Fertility of the area and shelter of the hill upon which the town sits, makes Carmona one of the most important towns of its time. It´s origin dates back to Neolítico times with Pre-historic deposits having been found in it´s Surroundings. The bell shaped vase, the first hispanic Contribution to European art was discovered in Carmona. The iberian town had one of it´s goldcrests take a very active participation in the punic war (218-202 B.C.). It was powerfully romanized leaving them with the right to coin money. The Augusta Road Known in that time as "El Arrecife" passed through Carmona from which there are some remains including a bridge. The town now values and makes use of the urban Roman planning . This was without a doubt one of the best Periods in history for Carmona. Its traces are evident even today. The two main gateways of the walled enclosure (those of Seville and Cordoba) are Roman. However the most notable Roman monument unique to its generation is "Necrópolis". Carmona maintained it´s importance during the muslim period and even became a capital during the reign of the Tarifa. In 1247 Fernando II- El Santo conquered. His son Alfonso X El Sabio carried out the division and delimitacion of the remaining land. During the reign of "Pedro el Cruel", Carmona was subjected to royal predilection. Alcázar de la Puerta de Marchena grew in popularity and become a favourite residence. After the violent death of the King of montiel the kings children stayed there under the protection of Martin López de Córdoba master of Alcántara and Calatrava. During the reign of Juan II and Enrique IV Carmona was a scene of rivalry between the nobels of ponce de Leon and those of Guzman. The participation of Carmona in the Granada war was outstanding as it was made possible to verify lots of documentations which was hidden in the municipal Archieve. In 1630 Felipe IV granted Carmona it´s own title as a town and more recently in 1869 Carmona was the location for one of the first attempts of implantation of the Federal Republic.
