Profile |
Conceived to be the most luxurious hotel in Europe when it was commissioned in 1928, the splendour of the Hotel Alfonso XIII embodies the tradition, hospitality, aesthetic genius, and harmony of life that characterizes Seville. The Alfonso XIII has served royal families, heads of state, and innumerable personalities from political, artistic, and social circles the world over. |
A focal point of Seville society. In the heart of Seville, just a few steps from the Giralda and the Alcazar, from the Torre del Oro and Guadalquivir river, the Hotel Alfonso XIII is a symbol of the Andalusian grace. Welcome to Hotel Alfonso XIII and discover the charm of a magic city. |
Situated between the historical Tobacco Factory - now the University - and the ancient Torre del Oro, between the baroque palace of San Telmo and the Royal Alcazares, the Hotel Alfonso XIII has been a frequent host to Sevilla's social life ever since its inauguration in 1928. |
The building shows a clear analogy with the ones that compose the Plaza de Espana and the one on the Plaza de America. And there is nothing strange to that, since they were all built for the Ibero-American Exhibition of 1929. |
They had been planned many years before, for the Exhibition was to have taken place in 1914, but financial straits, the inevitable administrative laziness and the Great War added on to its delay. The local City Hall donated the site considered ideal and which was part of the Palace of San Telmo, donated to the city by Her Royal Highness Infant Maria Luisa. |
