 The little village Tolox is about 45 minutes drive from Málaga and in one of the most beautiful regions of the highlands around Ronda, the so called "Serranía de Ronda". The village is of typically Arabic style, with narrow alleys and white washed houses, exuberantly decorated with flowers. Special highlights are the remains of the castles' town walls, which are still of Phoenician origin and the church with its three naves, dating from the XVI century. Very typical for Tolox are the sweets, elaborated on the base of "fig bread".
The local festivities are celebrated on the 16th August honouring Saint Roque, the towns' patron and terminate in splendid fireworks, exploding some 24000 rockets in just about 2 hours. The 8th December the youngsters are all on the street, making lots of noise with cattle bells and horns in order to remember a celebration of the Arabic times of the towns history. |
