Ronda:
As typical city of the Andalusian interior, Ronda is about a one hour drive from Málaga and the Costa del Sol, at 90 minutes distance from Seville and embedded in the mountain range "Sierra de las Nieves", declared "biosphere reservation". The town itself presents the visitor with various faces: on one side, important Arabic reminiscences - on the other side very modern influences. The most important monuments are Spains' oldest bull fight arena, the main church "Santa Maria la Mayor", the "Well of the Eight Canes", the palaces "Palacio de Mondragón" and "Don Bosco" and of course the gorge with a depth of more than 100 metres, cutting the city in two. The high plateau to which Ronda clings, is surrounded by a beautiful mountainous landscape known as the "Serranía de Ronda", and includes various Natural Parks, for example the mountain range "Sierra de Grazalema". The most popular gastronomic products no visitor should miss sampling are the chestnuts, the sausages and the schnapps. |
