 The village Cazorla is situated in the midst of mountains, near the pass of "Despeñaperros" (which is the geographic northern entrance to Andalusia) and less than 30 minutes from the cities of Úbeda and Baeza, declared "Human Heritage" due to their rich architecture, representing the Spanish Renaissance. Cazorla is a typical Arabic town, with winding narrow streets. Over the houses, constructed on the slopes like staircases one over the other, sits the majestic castle "Castillo de la Yedra" of Moorish origin. Its the usual starting point for any visit to the famous Natural Park of Cazorla, which encompass the mountain ranges of "Cazorla", "Segura" and "Las Villas" and maintains a rich wildlife, including red deer, fallow deer, mufflons, the "cabra montés" (the Spanish ibex), vultures and lammergeyers. You also may visit such picturesque landscapes as the spring of the river "Guadalquivir", the most important river of Andalusia. The gastronomy is characterized by venison meat and the gold of this province, the olive oil. Worth a mention are dishes which combine both elements, like the "lomo en orza" (meat marinated in olive oil). |
