By plane/boat: You can reach the island of Mallorca, one of the Balearic Islands, either by plane or boat. The Son Sant Joan Airport is placed 6 kilometres from the city of Palma, receiving flights from Barcelona, Madrid and Alicante, among other cities in Spain, and also from other countries in Europe, such as Great Britain and Germany. Otherwise, several ferries transport visitors (specially taking their cars with them) from Valencia and Barcelona, among other cities on the coast of Spain, to Mallorca. The main port is the one at Palma de Mallorca, even though it could be really convenient to find a boat reaching the Alcudia port, much nearer the THB Gran Playa (there are regular voyages from Barcelona in this case).
By car: If you arrive at the airport, you will have a distance of 68 kilometres till you reach the THB Gran Playa in Can Picafort (this will take you around 50 minutes driving). Take the MA-19 motorway towards the Exit 3, but as you come close to Palma de Mallorca, get on the MA-20. Drive in the direction Port d`Alcudia and then follow the signs "Exit 3B/ Inca/ Port d'Alcúdia/ Son Castelló". Take the MA-13, where you will stay for around 40 kilometres, passing the city of Inca. Continue along the MA-13A and at a roundabout, take the first exit into the track MA-3460. By this time you will be really near Alcudia, a port placed 9 kilometres from the beaches of Can Picafort and the most important city in the surroundings of the hotel. Turn right at MA-3470 and you will reach a second roundabout, where you must take the first exit into MA-3433. Still on this track, you will pass Fotges, and turn right at MA-12 (or Avenida de los Pesacadors de S`Albufera). This route leads to Can Picafort along a way parallel to the beach: you will reach a roundabout where Paseo Colom street is the third exit, and afterwards just go along it till you run into Calle de Ran de Mar. You will find the THB Gran Playa here, on number 168.
From the Alcudia Port, take the Artá-Port d`Alcudia motorway (or PM-60) and at the third roundabout, get on the Via de Corneli Atic. Continue along the Artá route, driving parallel to the beach, and then along Avenida dels Pesacadors de S`Albufera. This track will change its name to Carrer de la Carretera de Marjais, but keep on it up to Can Picafort, where you must take Paseo Colom street and follow the directions already described. (The distance to the THB Gran Playa is of about 9 kilometres).
By train/bus: Either from the port or airport in Palma, you may take the line 1 of the bus network, and get off at Plaça d`Espanya, the main transport hub in the city.
From here, there are connections to Jacint Verdaguer 1-3, from where you may take the train known as SFM Inca, Manacor and Sa Pobla: the nearest stops to Can Picafort are Muro and Sa Pobla, but be sure to take the railway service that ends in Sa Pobla.
Meanwhile, from Can Picafort there are regular bus services to Alcudia, if you arrive at the port or need to reach it. |
