Information - Travelling with Pets
Travelling with your pets is relatively easy in Spain as there
are no animal quarantine regulations in place. That said, check
before you start your journey for any changes in the current laws
from the Spanish Consulate closest to you. If bringing your dog
or cat they must be vaccinated against rabies, and you must carry
veterinary certificates and vaccination records showing that your
pet has been inoculated. When booking your hotel remember to check
if pets are welcome.
If travelling
by airplane pets are checked in as luggage and travel in the hold
of the aircraft. There is often an extra charge for bringing your
pet onto the aircraft and not all airline companies accept animals
on board.
In all European
countries, it is obligatory to identify your pets with a microchip
or tattoo because this makes it easier to find them if lost or stolen.
Be aware that
in Spain there are many places, such as restaurants, that do not
allow pets inside.
