Bus Travel in Spain

Bus travel in Spain is cheap and convenient way to get around however only for short distances. Outside of the major cities bus travel is often the only option and the rural networks are extensive.

Within cities like Barcelona or Madrid bus travel can be an ideal way to explore - it is inexpensive, the routes are extensive and although slower than the metro you get to see where you are going. The bus companies in each city have pamphlets with information on routes, timetables and prices.

Click on the links to the regions below for information on urban bus services.

Intercity Bus Travel

Although the networks are extensive, intercity bus travel in Spain can be confusing because there are dozens of companies that serve literally thousands of routes. To buy a ticket for long distance, inter-regional travel, go to the bus station. Otherwise some companies now sell tickets online. In the big cities there may be several coach stations operating different routes.
